I have always had an appreciation for the art of photography. As a child, I was captivated by the photos in LIFE and National Geographic magazines and marveled at the talent of those photographers who were able to make an emotional connection with the viewers by the way they captured a scene, portrait or landscape. In the recesses of my mind, I thought it would be so cool to be able to create such photographs not so much for an audience but for myself. It wasn’t until three years ago that I decided to improve my skills beyond the “point and shoot” type of photography. Much of my knowledge comes from the City College of San Francisco photography program. I have also learned a great deal from my research on techniques of photographers whose style I admire.
When I began photography, I did not have a specific vision or style at the time. I did have a desire to create something special and emotionally moving. I joined a photography community and was most enchanted by the long exposure images I have seen. I knew this was the photography style I wanted to create and make my own.
I love nature and the outdoors so landscapes have always attracted me on many levels. Our eyes envision individual moments and are interpreted as they appear in reality. My desire with long exposure is to capture a scene in such a way that does not accurately represent the scene as seen but as images that are hidden from reality, mysterious, mystical.
The vision I hope to convey through my images are in ways similar to a haiku poem. A minimal amount of words that evoke an ethereal, sublime, spiritual emotion; an ephemeral, meditative thought.
I hope you enjoy the images I have envisioned and created. Thank you for visiting.
